Ojai

So Lucia and I went up to camp at Lake Casitas (near Ojai if you happen to know where that is) this past weekend and had a great time with our buddies. Unfortunately we both forgot to take our cameras, but such is life. The hectic life in the mountains amounted to an early morning walk for about an hour or two, returning to camp for an outstanding and much needed PB&J, another walk with lots of discussions about kayaking, possibly a drive in to Ojai, a dinner of some sort next to a warm fire with lots of chatting about life and oddities in general. Good times.

Great Job!

Wow Nate, incredible job.  This is very different from our previous set up and I love it.  Just getting ready to close up shop here in Egypt.  Please let me know if anyone would like something from here before I leave though.  Take care and I love you guys.

Saurkraut

So Lucia has been trying her hand at making homemade saurkraut. If you don't know what goes into this, all I can tell you is that it makes little farting noises and doesn't smell terribly better.

Enhancements

Living in LA has had certain effects on me, one of them being that thinking that this blog has been ignored because it doesn't look quite right. So, in an attempt to get more attention I'm giving it a face lift. But this is more than cosmetic surgery, because there are a lot of new

Advisored??? Part 2

Today, I did a google search on my name to see if my website came up (it did not), but you might find the second hit interesting. On top of this I also spoke with the guy I have been working for, Sterl Phinney, about officially being his grad student to ease any confusion on

Racing the Hurdles

Just before leaving Olivenhain yesterday afternoon I fixed a couple “typos” in my code that had been misleading me for some time now. Today, I was able to run some checks and it now appears that I have passed a major hurdle. The purpose of this post is to explain generally what that hurdle was

Advisored????

So, it’s really too early to really say, but it seems like there is good news on the “Advisor Hunt” front. Well, maybe it’s no news, but maybe it’s really good news. I had to drop some of the classes that I signed up for last June but am not taking and add “research units”

Shocked!!! (EDIT)

One of the reasons I have been so busy lately is that I have been very close to finally solving the mathematical problem necessary to be able to put it into the numerical simulation (program) which I need to do my research. I could have found easier ways to begin, but I would have found

Odyssey of Delight

On the Camino de Santiago I ended at Finnisterre, an ancient location purported for over two millenia to be the ends of the Earth and the point of rebirth. A pilgrimage before pilgramages people would travel for years to reach the place of renaissance, strip themselves of all they wore and all they owned,

Runyon Canyon

As near as I could tell, Runyon Canyon is a misnomer of the most egregious kind. Lucia drug me away from my work this afternoon to go watch the sunsetted from a park where she goes for hikes with her yoga intructor’s wife. She said it has “a really just above average decent view” for

Where is everyone?

I’ve noticed no new news on the blog. Guess everyone is busy elsewhere. We are back after a great trip. Weather couldn’t have been better. Missed the storms in our 4600 mile trip! Lots of pictures, many visits with friends and relatives and we are now sorting through all that

Thoughts on Iraq

Well, this blog might be kind of long. I have severral pictures that I want to post and a couple of thoughts about things here in Iraq. This is definitely a third world country. An Iraqi police officer was killed as he departed a mosque yesterday, during Ramadan. Kind of

First Attempt With New Blog Editor

This is just a quick test of a new blog editor Nate is teaching me how to use.  Talk about growing pains.  I feel sorry for all the grief Nate is going through for this.  But here is the first attempt at doing this with only massive assistance from Nate.  Maybe next time I can

Picture Pictures Everywhere

Teague has decided, unknowingly, to keep me very busy this weekend. Since he desperately needs photos to put up in his room I decided to print out some photos for him. It seemed logical to also get the photos together that Lucia and I have been wanting to put up in the apartment. However, Lucia
